I was driving to worka few days agoand noticed a loud rattling noise as I was riding. The rattling was still there while I was coasting. Sounded like a bunch of marbles in the tranny. Scared as I was, I drove it back home and parked it... I drove it to a friend's house later that evening to let him see if he could pinpoint the noise. It rattled all the way there. When he got on it to check it out it didn't rattle any more. Then I couldn't get it to rattle..Frustrated, I took it home and parked it again.. Next morning, I took it out again and heard the noise again then realized that it was the Gas Cap rattling when it was cold and the enricher **** was pulled out. WHEW! What a relief..... Has anyone else experienced this? Should the gas cap rattle like that?

Here are my 3 rattles

1. Gas Cap
2. Clutch Lever
3. Key Ring

 

My gas cap sounds like the bike is falling apart if I hit a good bump.

 

Yep, my 02 XL Hugger does the same thing. Gas cap rattlle

 

My ultra was rattling the other day, pulled over, inspected the fairing. Turns out i ran over a winger. had to put the poor fella down.

 

Are there any easy remidies for the Gas Cap Rattler? I think I will take a closer look at the cap and see if anything can be done.. I can handle normal noises (which I guess this is one) but it is really annoying on long rides.

Any one else have any mystery noises?

 

Just buy a new one.

I've got a rattle too I'll be checking that on the way home tonight if I hear it, it comes and goes so I'm not worried about it thanks for the tip though.
