Deciding between 1200C and 1200R
If I got the Roadster I would have forward controls installed. I'd be about a grand ahead and have the black engine which I like. I could use the extra $ for mods.
Any reason not to go this route? Roadster has better brakes (not that I expect to need them), larger front wheel (but not spoked - but no tube either), other significant differences???

If you like the blacked-out look, go for the R. Like you said, you can add the forward controls.
I personally like the chrome (and the spoked wheel). Like you, I like the bigger front wheel of the R, but overall prefer the C. It's all about preference...which one is going to cost you less to make it just the way you want it?

I had a 1200R and loved it. The paint scheme was different and when you went to bike nights there was only 1 or 2 other roadsters. So in a way we kinda stood out. I also had the forward controls on mine. They are easy to put on. So if you are ok with wrenching you could save the install fee. The only down side was the 3.3 peanut tank. But when you need gas it was also time for a smoke break.haha

yes you will need the best brakes you can get and that may not be enough and the front wheel on the roadster is 19 inches the front wheel on the custom is a 21 inch wheel.. one of the deciding factors for me when I bought my 1200r was the triple disc brakes , longer suspension and taller ground clearence plus I prefer mid controls.. the great thing about a sportster is you can mix and match parts and make it your own.
good luck and hope to see a new purchase pic soon.

I like the R because of the extra braking and I just like the "sportieness" of it.
I am happy with the mids espicially since I put the drag bars on I'd feel like a banana with forwards.
The larger tank on the 08's would be nice but I think the peanut tank has more of a retro racer look to it.
I do like the paint job on the 07 R's a lot better than the 08"s.

I have a custom so naturally I lean toward that bike. I like the chrome, the laced front wheel, and the forward controls. Also the dual disc brakes on the custom are plenty of stopping power. If you need the tripple discs to stop then you are on the wrong bike. I rode a honda for years that had a single disc on the front and drum brakes in the back and never had any issues. The one thing thatI really did not like about the r was the speedo and tach sticking out above the bars. The hidden speedo on the c gives it a much cleaner look. Just my $.02.
