Default 2018 Iron 1200 unsteady acceleration

Hey guys,

This is my first post as a first time Harley owner. I recently purchased a stock Iron 1200 and have been putting a little work into it lately to bring it up to speed. I installed an Arlen Ness big sucker, V&H shortshots with standard baffle, and the FP3 tuner. I was hoping installing the map for the shortshots would help fix some of the issues I was having, mostly dealing with slow acceleration and steady throttle at low speeds (driving through neighborhoods/school zones at 20-30 mph in 1st-3rd gear). When I'm accelerating quickly through the gears I don't notice any issues. I haven't gotten to ride on the interstate to see if it occurs in higher gears or at higher speeds yet, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm just trying to get an idea of what I need to be looking at, whether it be tune or throttle adjustment. I haven't got much mechanical knowledge so I have no idea where to start, but I'd like to get it sorted ASAP so I can enjoy a smooth ride on my new baby!!

My apologies if this question has already been addressed in another thread. I haven't figured out how to navigate the site just yet. So thank you in advance for the input and help!

I would try installing a different map, try some of the maps that have exhaust close to yours. See if you notice a change. You can always contact V&H and have them check it out for you.

Does it sound like something common with Harley's, or even just Sportsters, or more like a tuning thing? I'm not even sure what map I would try, honestly.

To me it sounds like a mapping issue. If your exhaust is 2 into 2, just try any 2 into 2. You can even just try the generic 2 into 2 exhaust map. Thats the map Im using on my 18 Iron 1200 and im running Supertrapp exhaust. That map has worked good for me with 2 different systems.

+1 try different Maps according to ur exhuast...also it's mostly a tuning related issue than a hardware one. U can eliminate this doubt by going back to the stock Map (Slot 0 in View/Edit Map)..flash the stock Map and see if it does the same low speed sputter, report back. Good luck

So I changed the map, and that definitely helped a bit. I also installed the DK TTIs yesterday, which helped the sound and smoothness. Today, however, I noticed through the FP3 sensor screen that my O2 sensors are reading very different numbers on accel. One is reading .8-.9 while the other is reading .0-.1. I know this means one is rich and one is lean, but is that normal? Is there a way to clean them to ensure they are getting accurate readings? Thanks guys!

Somebody here went through a similar issue. He also noticed the rear cyl was running richer, to keep it cool. He went into his computer and matched the numbers for his tune. I don't recall everything he did but I don't think is was an FP3 he used.

Maybe he will chime in.
