I couldn't stop thinking about that new Fat Bob the whole day and was starting to contemplate pre-ordering one. Then I went out for a ride this afternoon and very quickly forgot about the Fat Bob. The sporty is still the most fun you can have with your clothes on, and until it stops putting that stupid grin on my face, I think it'll do just fine.

 

I get what you're saying, but when I want balance and smoothness I drive my car. When I want to enjoy the experience, I ride my sporty. I'll only start considering a bagger when I'm to old for something zippy. Hopefully that'll only happen in another 20 years or so...

Most guys on baggers ride very conservative, and don't go out of their way trying to impress people with power bursts, but with a good tune they do put out the power.

It does look like you tried to turn your bike into a touring bike. I kinda did the same thing to the Sportster I had, Mustang vintage wide seat saddle bags, Progressive shocks and springsand a detachable windshield. It all depends on what kind of riding you do. I bought my sportster because at the time I did not want to make a huge investment in a bike that I was not sure how much I would ride. It all changed once I started riding found that I was riding alot with friends on the weekend and once my wife started riding with me I could not get her off. Then I realized I should have gotten a bigger bike. My bike was totaled in a accident, we went to look a new bikes and my wife was quick to say we needed a bigger bike since my budget is not unlimited bought a Dyna Super Glide and am not looking back. Take a Dyna for a ride sometime and then decide.

Wow - that thing is crazy! I guess the image I have of baggers is based on personal experience though. Just about every guy I see riding a bagger is at least 15 years older than me and is cruising along at about 20mph which is cool if that's what you're in to, but I'm talking about how baggers are percieved - not judging. I pulled up to a local shopping center near me today on my sporty and one of the shop owners came out and was admiring the Sporty and asking questions like how much it cost etc. He said it was a beautiful bike and he would like to get one because it looked sporty, but he also said that "those big things with the bags that are as big as a car" are made for old geezers and he would never get one. Granted, he probably doesn't know too much about Harleys, but the perception is that baggers are for "old geezers".

thats why old men and ladies ride baggers to keep their junk in thier trunk all mushy and unbruised.I have always said Im gonna get me a glider with somejunk toters on it when I turn 70, but ill keep my sporty for friday nights when I take my viagra.
