Default Tail light unit disassembly?

Does anybody know how to remove the guts from a sportster tail light? I want to powder coat the housing but cant to it with all the wires and terminals in there? My clymers manual has no picture or breakdown diagram for this. I assume most folks just buy the color they want.

Tail light or head light? What is the year and model of your bike?

Fashion something like this in stiff wire that can go in the place that locks the bulb in and pull.

Default 2007

Sorry, it's a 2007 rear signal housing. Not the tail light.

there is a small rubber washer/grommet that goes around the internal housing.
If you can dig that out the internals should then be free to be removed

Just finished powder coating the signal housing. I used a metal pick with a 90degree end, then pulled it down through the side opening. Everything came out without damage.

I sandblasted the parts and powder coated in a textured black to match my air filter cover and exhaust.
