Default Pinging

Ok, I have an 07 nightster that is all stock. I live at about 8500 ft elevation. Yesterday I went down to Denver (5000ish feet elevation?). Well on the way back up to home every time I would roll on the throttle especially in 4th or 5th, I would hear a pinging sound from what sounded like the front of the engine. It almost sounded like when you shut off a hot engine and it makes all the pinging noises as it cools. Anyway what i'm thinking is that I had some detonation issues going on. I dropped a few thousand feet in elevation the computer didn't adjust fast enough and it created a very lean condition due to the extra air at the lower elevation? Anybody have another theory? I am thinkingit is time for a Stage 1 to remedy this. Oh and bike only has about 500 miles on it. Thanks for any responses....Dave

Use premium, do stage one, change to synthetics, dont lug the engine, get a PC 3. If this does not work just ride it until it breaks, warranty will take care of it.

Octane booster in the fuel would probably help.

I do use premium, but i'm not going to start using octane booster in every tank. I was kinda thinking it was just from the already lean condition from the factory magnified by the elevation changes.

Take it for a couple of short rides and the computer will readjust. Don't think you've got anything to worry about

Running lean usually shows up first as farts & popping on decell. That being said, I would run out that tank of fuel and fillup again at a different Name Brand station. It wouldn't be the first time someone got a bad tank of fuel or absent mindedly pushed the wrong octane button on the pump.
