I think it looks sweet JW. I went through the entire Harley cataloge today, and the standard is a sweet looking bike. Forward controls and lots of chrome. For some reason I liked it better than the custom, but can't remember why? Must be the seat.

Well, the main difference between the Standard and the Deuce is the rear fender design, and the Standard doesn't have nearly as much chrome. If you are a 'chrome freak' you might be disappointed with the Standard, but you could always add chrome at a later date. But like I mentioned, I like the chrome and black engines.

If you venture over to the Softail section of the site on the top there is a section with pictures people post of the various model Softails.

There are some great looking bikes in the Standard picture section, in fact there are great pictures of the other models as well.

Well. This is my thinking. By engine is black and chrome so I'm cool with that. Small front tire, big rear. mini apes, 2 up seat. 96 ci and 6 speed trannie.

The Softail Standards are great bikes, and I know quite a few guys that have them. Many people consider them the "entry level Softails", but I really like the Standards.

I had a chance last year to pick one up at a super low price, and the only thing that stopped me was the 'silver engine'.
I bought a Standard because I wanted a blank canvas. But I know what you mean about the silver engine. I struggled with that a little myself, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I plan to do engine upgrades in a year or two, and have been considering powder coating the engine/tranny black when I do it.
