Ok fixed my short, pinched wire, and the bike is back together now. Ledt side extended right side not. For this moment it is what it is. I will order a complete set of black ones with extended turn signal caps.

It has to be a full set because what get this started was the factory black ones were worn out and unreadable. So I will order new ones and when convienient to me, I will install them.

FWIW I called HD dealer today and they wanted $62 plus parts and tax to install the right side switch. Not worth it to me.

I will go back to the black ones so I can have the extended. Or I might not order them at all and forget the whole thing.

Old thread I know, but I also added the extended caps on my sporty, it was a long while ago so I don’t remember the process however I DO remember it being a huge PITA! But well worth the trouble in the end. Mine are black.

It was nice to have them, but now I have the Ultra Classic, and I am afraid to try it again. It was a real PITA.

Are these more difficult to install than the 71500110 chrome switch cap kit? I have installed several of the kits without any problem, cant see why the extension caps would be any more difficult????

With key caps you can remove the switch from the housing and it is very easy. To fit the extended turn signal caps you have to put the cap through the front of the switch opening and then offer up the switch from behind.

It is fiddly and you have to be careful if you don't want to scratch off any paint.

I have fitted two sets and it was no easier on the second bike.

Installing standard caps was a piece of cake, mostly because as Andy pointed out, you cannot assemble them and slide back into place. The extended tabs make a HUGE DIFFERENCE. The left side went in fairly easy, but the right, never worked properly and I ended up rigging it up. My idea worked, and held up, but I would have preferred just using the cap as designed.

I will not try that again on my present bike.

Just reading back through the thread and your comment about relocating the RT button to the left side. That would be okay for upto 2013. From 2014 on the bikes are CAN bus so I have no idea if that would be possible.

Yah earlier this summer it took 15/20mn to change left switch & grip , almost 5hrs to do right switch , They make signals more effortless but purely agervating to install
I think H-D is to greedy , I'm guessing those $25 switches wouldn't ad $,07 to the build price , Ok maybe $,11 cents

Andy,
I have no idea, but if they still work just as a momentary normally open switch, then my bet would be yes.

My comment was meant really for my forward thinking of a scrambler, and eliminating or modifying the bulky switches on the handlebars.
