Yes, it is solid which is why I cut it in half, then chucked each piece in a lathe, drilled then tapped to 1/4 -20. I did it this way instead of threading the OD and using a collar so it wouldnt be as bulky looking . My way, you really need a lathe to make sure you are drilling on center.

I do have a lathe and tap and die set, but if there is room, I do not mind the bulky look, since its behind a muffler. Mine is anyway.

Picked up some threaded couplings 1/4 28 and 5/16 24 just in case. Long drive to town so hopefully dont need to make an extra trip.

For future reference Speedway Motors has any heim end in any configuration you would ever need to make what you need. Tubes and rods in aluminum, steel or stainless steel. All in various strengths. All designed for automotive and two wheel use. Price is more than right.

Thanks will look into them if this does not work out. My shifter rod arrived today and it looks pretty darn stout. Will have ot remove front muffler to see if heim joints are the same size and go from there. I have a suspicion the shift rods are larger, which does NOT make sense to me. The brake would receive way more pressure than the shifter.

Standard for 2007 Low

Forward controls on 2008 Custom

The threaded bits on the ends of part 3 are not bolts. They are the ball ends of the rose joints. They are unscrewed with a T30 torx driver.

Well one of my other projects did not work out, and the bolts for the brake rod truely are 1/4 28, so the shifter linkage did not work as planned. It is boxed back up to return tomorrow.

So I took the factory brake rod off, and cut it half. I then threaded it to 3/8 24, and threaded on a coupler nut and lock nut. Here is a shot of the finished job. This raised my brake pedal about 3/4" which is fantastic in my book.

The new rod.

The old position was level or slightly below center of footpeg.

It looks close but the lock nut does not hit the frame.

Question, can the bolt portion of these rods be removed without ruining the product?
