I'm confused, what bike you working on?
ive used heim joints from Grainger with stainless all thread, put heat shrink over the all thread, but that's the shifter on the 06 flh. Also did that for the foot clutch on the Shovelhead.

I guarantee those threads on the brake are 1/4-28, the clutch side is 5/16 I believe. Which is it your working on?

What I did was cut the stock brake rod and drilled and tapped 1/4-20 on each side in a lathe then used 1/4-20 stainless threaded rod w/ stainless jam nuts.
With both sides being RH thread, you still have to remove one end to adjust but thats no biggie for me.

All thread would be ok on shifters but this is for my brakes. All the all thread around here is softer steel than most.

I NEED a longer rod, so if it starts a little longer, that would be ok, but I don't think it is.

I am no engineer but the linkage rod may not be good enough for your intended purpose.

Andy, I hope you are wrong, otherwise I wasted 30 bucks. I am assuming the factory brake rod is solid. If so, and the one I ordered is too small, I will cut thr factory rod in half and thread the two halves and join them with a coupler.

I have to admit I was confused at this post, but now I think I get it. Is the factory rod hollow? I was assuming it was solid, and was wondering why you went smaller dia.

Or did you hollow out each end then tap?

The RH thread isn't a big deal, as you said. Curious why you didn't just thread the outside of the rod? Also if your 1/4" rod has worked, I might be able to make the one I ordered.

You are saying the bolts in the heim joints for the brake (the side I am working on) are 1/4 28? That was what I was asking. Looked it up in an old thread and someone said they were 5/16", so I took it as truth.
