Default 2007 XL883 pillion help...

A buddy just bought a 07 XL883.... he ordered a passenger pillion for it # ... Anyways, he wants to ride to the dealer to get it and figured we may just pop it on in the parking lot instead of carrying it back somehow. Anyone have one of these that can tell us whats involved in putting one of these on? What tools will it take etc? I figure it has to bolt to the solo seat somehow... Also, is the fender already threaded in the rear under the plastic plug or how does it attach there? Thanks alot for any insight... If it will be a pain with basic tools, I will just tell him to drive up there and get it in the vehicle...lol

This is a really difficult install....just kidding. You'll pretty much need a screw driver that will fit the philips head screw that is on the back of the current seat. And if I remember correctly there is a bolt that attaches the passenger pillion to the stock seat. Just take along a pair of plyers. As long as there isn't gonna be a pasenger involved on the return trip home, that will be fine. Then properly tighten it up once you're home. If ya don't want to use plyers, I'm guessing it is a 3/8 to 9/16 inch socket youwould need. I really can't remember.

The threads that are currently in the fender for the stock seat will come out be relocated to the hole that currently has the plastic plug. The passenger pillion kit includes a wire tie that is used to relocate the threads from the front hole to the rear. (wow, that sounded kinda kinky) Anyway...it's very simple.

Once you get home, be sure and put some lock-tite blue on that rear seat screw. That **** will vibrate out in a hurry.

The bracket tha holds the solo to the fender has to be removed and put on the pillion. The pillion bolts to the seat where the bracket was. The thread insert goes where the rear plug is. I change mine back and forth alot, takes about 5 minutes and having a roadster I can get my hand under the fender so its easy would be a pita on Cs or Ls.
