Yeah, my 2015 Limited has the lock-in grips but my 2013 Sportster 72 isn’t like that. Glue or nothing.

I’m gonna try acetone along with scoring the surface with some sandpaper. Probably 180 grit. Then the hairspray method and squeezing the grips to get a better bond.

Thanks for the info everybody.

Missus reminded me that hairspray dissolves with water. Have you had any problems with water entering the ends of the grips and dissolving the hair spray? Like if you get caught in the rain or during a wash?

Thanks.

hairspray works good, used it on last grips last year, and never had problems with last couple times ive used it

i like my new avon grips, was prepared to lock em down.........they have a larger locking piece on bottom that locks in to the housing, no glue needed, first grips ive had that do that...

what size grips did you buy, what size bars do you have......just looking back and didnt see the size

Negative Sir, haven't had any problem with that. But then again, I do live in AZ, so not much rain, and when it does its just a giant flood.

71567-96 HOUSING, UPPER LEFT
71568-96A HOUSING, LOWER LEFT

The part numbers are the same as a custom. Looking at the lower housing you can see the trough at the edge where the grip will locate.

Has your switch gear been changed to non HD?

I live in Indio, CA. Low desert area and we get very little rain but I was more concerned about water from the spray nozzle when I wash the bike getting in there. Maybe just rubber band a sandwich bag over it when I wash the bike, just to be sure.

Thanks!

No, switch housings are OEM. I see the trough. Really evident in both the upper and lower. There’s no lock portion like with my 2015 tho. I think that was part of the upgrades they did when they changed the switches over and added a multi-switch to cycle the odometer/trip/clock when the electronics switched over to a CAN-BUS system for all models in 2014.

Thanks!
