Default Front fork cap thread size NEED HELP!

Had a buddy helping me with my front forks, and he cross threaded my fork tube cap. Does anyone know the thread size so I can hit it with a tap and die?

Don't know the thread size as I have never heard anyone using a tap and die to re-thread the fork tube and/or the cap. Do they even have such a large size.

The cap nut is 1 3/8" (I believe 35mm is an equivalent size in metric).

The fork cap is under a lot of spring tension so I would replace fork tube and cap rather than re-thread....IMHO it is the safer route, but that is just me. It is definitely not cheap.

Good luck

A tap that size if you can find one will cost you twice what a new set of fork tubes will. I know it'll be a pain but least expensive and simplest remedy at this point is replacement, you can probably hit an indy shop and pick up a pull off for dirt cheap.

A homemade "improvised" tool from a furniture/wood clamp can be useful for this, here's some pics:

If the tube's threads are really butchered badly, I'd recommend getting a new/used tube
and a fork rebuild kit. RonniesHD microfiche can be used to get part numbers...

I suspect the nut and tube threads are machine-cut, not cut using a die and tap. The suggestion to get a replacement tube and nut is wise.

Also, get a new "buddy" while you're at it.

Y’all have been a big help. The buddy is banned from the garage. As for new tubes I checked a few shops around me and the one shop that had a tube wants $120 for a used tube that looks worse than the one with bad threads. Has anyone here heard of, or bought parts from HardDrive? Found two tubes for $150 from them.

You can get them new from BoardtrackerHD online for ~$63.00 each (the tube I looked up)
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline.com/

You didn't list your model/year or I would've looked up the part number.

good luck,

About right, they will drop ship from another supplier is all, depending on how late model you have try this place, I've been using stuff from 30+ yrs now. Place like J&P have huge markups price wise
