the previous owner prbably heard alot of knuckleheads profess how 'Sportsters arent worth anything" and figure what the hell, Ill use it for a guinea pig. Its a shame, the bike would be nice if it had original paint etc.

Wow, talk about rode hard and put up wet. Whoever the previous owner was should be taken out back and shot... as the story would go an old fight dog saved by a good person bring her back to life and ride.

Got the bike raised back to stock and its so much better, no more bottoming out over speed bumps. Vance and Hines short shots came in today, got them on amazon prime with free 2 day shipping, a very nice surprise considering other places where trying to charge $100-200 to ship them on a boat out here to Hawaii. Found a stock handlebar on eBay that should be coming in next week. Found a place that will paint it for around $400. Gonna try just sand the small areas of surface rust on the frame and spry paint it for now. I got some stock switch housings from harley and installed them and ordered some arlen ness grips. Was thinking of trying

Any tips on how to get the engine looking nicer? I was gonna try going at it with a toothbrush and some dish soap to see if I can get it looking a little nicer.

I wanna try and find a replacement for the turn signals because the housings all look pretty bad, been looking at some LED ones. Anyone have any suggestions on ones that look good but aren't too expensive?

Thanks for all your help so far. Ill post some before and after pictures once all the work is completed

I know a guy who had a blacked out sporty and he used "Pig Spit" on his motor. He loved that stuff....brightened up the black. You can get it at the dealership. Perhaps use PS with a toothbrush. Your motor doesn't look all that bad probably just need to be cleaned up.
