There is a marketplace on the forum to buy used parts. As well as Craigslist. Those handlebars didn't come silver from the factory. It almost looks like it was a parts bike that was put together with the old parts from another bike. That's my guess anyways.

A jack is your best bet. Once you loosen the tensions bolts the bike will drop down the tubes further if there isn't anything holding it up. I would let gravity do the work once it's off the ground.

Everything has been smooth with the title transfer and it seems to be all legal. I think they didnt like that it was green and decided to paint it black. Theres so many things about this bike that make me scratch my head and ask why.

eBay can be a really good source of used parts.

I know I've sold a ton of take off parts on ebay, and I've bought a few too.

Hauʻoli makahiki hou

CL and FB Marketplace locally would be a good source being in the middle of the pacific ocean. I have a lot of parts taken off my 2011 XL1200L listed on both so let me know what you need and if I have it and it fits your bike, will give you a good deal or may just give it to you. PM me.

Does the bike at least run good?

Welcome to the forum.

Share more pics of the full bike front rear and sides. What a shame someone decided to create a Frankenstein bike with a newer bike. But on the flip side whatever you do moving forward will be an upgrade. Please share more photos I need to see this.
by the way welcome and ride safe

I am new to the forum and new to harley's. I bought a very much neglected 2017 sportster iron 883 a few days ago and am slowly undoing all the damage from the abusive previous owner. It seems that the previous owner had a propensity for drilling random holes, putting on random parts and using random bolts in place of original ones. One of his greatest sins was painting over the nice factory paint with a black rattle can, with horrible drips and orange skin; but hey, what can you expect for $3000.

I do need help however with figuring out how the front brake line should run. The way it sits now, it is contacting the fork when I tried to rotate the forward controls to make the turn signals to make them level with the headlight. When I got the bike, the R forward controls were rotated up 45 degrees and the L forward controls were rotated up 30 degrees. Like I said this is my first harley so I'm not sure how its supposed to look. I will attach pictures of my current situation. There also seems to be a gap between the throttle grip and the R forward control that I cant figure out how to get rid of.

So I turn to the Harley experts on this forum to guide me so I can make this bike at least halfway decent.

Thats a 17 ? ..... **** man where’d he keep it in the ocean 🤔

Thats a good outlook, it can only get better from here I wish I had taken some close ups of how the highway bar was attached before I took it off but alas. Here are some pics that show what im dealing with, though they definitely don't do it justice. Let me know if you see anything that looks weird or out of place

You might be able to take off the red paint off the bolts with acetone. I used it to remove some white paint off my black tins on my original 80 XLH. I have a pair of calipers but they are not black. Have fun.

You can use that VIN on the H-D website to download a copy of the Owners Manual for your bike, go to the Owners tab. That will provide you with some basic info and a few photos of your bike. Consider also getting a copy of the genuine FSM from your local dealer, which provides comprehensive details for servicing and repairing your bike.

Best of luck in sorting the poor thing out!
