Default Stage 1 poll

I'm getting ready for service soon and I'm doing the Stage 1 debate again. I've hestitated because I don't want to lose the great gas mileage I'm getting. (average 55 MPG and gas stations areNOT plentiful out here) I've also seen a couple posts where folks have had some problems after the Stage 1. I'm also thinking about it because mine is running great in the lowlands, but it has started backfiringfairly frequently when I roll off of the throttle or do any type of engine braking in the higher elevations in the mountains. (I'm running CS baloney slice that are virtually baffleless.)

No problem before or after, as long as you do it right, you should be fine.
By the way, if I want good gas mileage, I would never use my harley as work transportation, 39-41 mpg is still reasonable to me.

How you ride has more to do with fuel economy than the stage one. Most people have reported an increase in fuel economy after the stage one.I have not checked mine but prior to that I was getting 24 -48 mpg.24 is around town wide open most of the time 48 is cruising.I don't check my mileage because it won't change the way I ride and if I need gas I need gas. It's that simple. You could always buy a bigger tank if you need to.

On the list of things you can do or add to a new bike, Stage 1 would be my first. Most people that do it can't believe how much better their bike runs.

I don't know what I was getting before the stage 1, but I've been keeping track over the last 1,200 miles, I'm averaging49 mpg, with a mix of probably 70% highway, 30% in town.

My last 2 tanks on my 07 1200C with Stage 1 done has averaged 48 mpg. I am in a philly burb so you can't quite call it city driving but I do very little hiway driving. I am pretty heavy on the throttle when I can be but when crusing with traffic I just go with the flow and take it easy.

Even if you affected your mpg say 10% to the negative, you'd have to visit the gas station 20 miles sooner, not too bad I'd say. If I had a situation like yours that gas stations are not plentiful, I'd probably grab 1 or 2 5 gallon cans of gas and store it at the house in a shed or something just for convenience.

On the flip side, OMG it runs so much nicer!
