Thanks for your reply.
I am considering adding the HD oil cooler as well as doing a Stage 1 conversion. Now that it isn't so hot outside, I will probably do the oil cooler in April and wait until my warranty expires in July to do the Stage 1 conversion.
No matter what the dealer tells you, I have verified that if you do a Stage 1 conversion with any thing but HD parts that the warrant is voided, even if the non-HD part are installed by an HD dealer. From what I have read, the HD parts an ECM moinitor, such as the FP3, are not even in the same league as those made by Vance & Hines and others.
I have already changed the HD oil for Mobil 1. This made a difference in the oil temperature as well as the smooth running of the engine. Of course the HD dealer told me that they would use Mobil 1 if I brought it in but this could also void the warranty. Frankly, I love my bike but I think HD has gone MBA crazy. I certainly won't buy the extended warranty with HD's attitude toward its warranty.

It's not the MBA's, it's the lawyers. Don't blame MBA's, we'd sell you anything for your bike to make a buck. Even if it was dangerous. The lawyers stop us.

There's a federal law, I forget the name, that states you can do your own maintenance and not void warranty. Just keep receipts with mileage. It also applies to taking your bike to an independent shop as well.

They cant void your warranty for using a non Harley oil as long as it is specified for your bike.

Also make sure you aren't overfilling the oil tank.

Some folks think the top line on the dip stick is the full cold level.

Might be the same there but across Europe so long as the parts fitted are OEM then warranty is maintained.

The US have the Moss Magnusson federal warranty act that prohibits manufactures from forcing you to use their oil and other parts. It states that if the manufacturer forces you to use their oil to keep your warranty then they have to give it to you for free. But you do have to use an oil that is specified for your bike though. You cant use a 10W30 where a 20W50 is called for. Harley is getting close to violating this act, just no one has taken them to court yet.
