Get a BAL brake light. https://www.brightasslights.com/site/

Then get a run/turn/stop conversion and LED's from Custom Dynamics for your rear turn signals.

You could add an LED Run-Brake Light to your license plate-

Or an LED License Plate Bolt Light-

You can see lots of different options HERE.

Several folks here have bought this smoked, low profile LED tail light from amazon. It's a good value-
Amazon Amazon

There are a ton of retailers for LED tail lights at various budget levels. Custom Dynamics makes solid gear but is not cheap. The one above is a known good piece of gear that won't break the bank.

You didn't say what year your bike is. Newer bikes use a canbus system that doesn't require a load equalizer if you install LED signal lights. Older bikes do require that unit or you will have hyper-flashing. Custom Dynamics makes a nice box for this. It fits under the seat. Works great.

Custom Dynamics also makes a Run-Turn-Brake unit that turns your rear signals into run-brake lights as well, can strobe your brake-signals to get attention, etc. It goes inline with the box above, fits under the seat. Really excellent for safety.

You will need LED signal lights for the rear, at least for any of the above to make any difference visually. Again, a ton of options depending on budget.

Custom dynamics makes great LED inserts as well, you can count on them to last a long time but are not cheap. You'd have to look through their site to choose what is right for you.
I bought a few 1156 RED LED lights from Amazon. They are bright as the sun. I've used them for a while and no issues. if they burn out, then I'm not out very much coin. They look like these ones-
Amazon Amazon

That is what they look like with the led tail on my bike-

What year and model of Sportster do you have? There's quite a few options available, but which ones you can use depends on your motorcycle.

My 94 softail only had run brake in the taillight and blinkers only on the struts. I installed a run brake turn module and changed the lenses to red for my blinkers. Now they’re run brake turn

Very happy with my Custom Dynamics. Setup run-turn-brake for the rear and the visibility of that combined with their LEDs is a tremendous difference both front and rear.

The best thing I have done for rear visibility on my Sporty are the Billet 22LR LED lights. I have them functioning as Run-Brake-Turn.

I like the look, and best of all, while they are low profile, they are BRIGHT!

You can see a bunch of photo's HERE.

Below is a vid-
