Default Brakes / Wheels / Tires. Need some help.

2011 Forty Eight.

Ok so I’ve started gathering stuff for some upgrades. Currently already have SS braided front lines. Bought a set of fat bob wheels that came with rotors so I can do a 180 rear. I want to do the XR1200 caliper upgrade as well. I have some questions...

Thinking Avon Cobras. I’ve spent some good money on suspension and I want this to handle in the twisties. Do I stay with a 130 front or get a 150 front to match stock fat bob set up?

Second, I want to upgrade the rear brake as well. Going to a larger floating rotor with the “older” bracket. I’d like to do a SS line to match the front and I can have magnum shielding (they’re local to me) make me one. I think I would have to eliminate the brake switch though. Additionally could I do the XR1200 rear caliper as well?

I think this is it for now. At least with the XR setup I don’t think I’d have to change master cylinders.

Thanks!!

Thumbs up

Avon tyres are a wise choice - I've been using them on my Harleys since the 1970s! The Cobras are only available in the ususl custom sizes, however an alternative is the Storm family. I have them on my Buell and Sporty (SuperLow uses lower profile tyres than most other models), also on the rear of my Glide - with a Cobra on the front.

I suspect you will need a Storm for the rear (I use the XM versions). If you plan to use a 130/90 front then a Cobra is just the ticket!

Looks like you can get the cobras in a 150/80 or MT90 front and a 180/65B16 rear. The 150/180 combo puts the overall height within .1 inches of each other. My only concern is I like to lean her over (I came from racing sport bikes) so will the 150/180 hurt me.

Cool

It will only 'hurt' you if and when you slide off!

Tee Hee!!!!

Not many of us have tried out that combo, so I doubt if you will get flooded out with advice. As for being a 'racer', you know what tyre combo works well on sports bikes!

Haha yup! I know sportbikes are 120 front / 170 or 180 rear. I also know that the curvature profile of sportbike tires are much better suited to turn in.
