Default 2007 Sportster fuel light question

I just came back from a 127 miles run on my 2007 Sportster 883 Low. I started with a full fuel tank, but the low fuel light has not come on after that many miles. Faulty sensor/light, or could I have enough fuel left for the light not to come on? I was riding from 55 mph up to 70 mph, no stop and go traffic.

If it’s a 4.5 tank that’s not uncommon. I have a 4.5 and fueled up at 120 miles today and it only took 2.6 gallons to fill it on a sportster 72.

Gotcha. Could go either way then. I’d probably go on a short ride near gas stations and if it didn’t come on fairly quick, gas up and see how much it takes. If it’s close to 3 gallons the light/sensor might have gone bad.

Have you switched to reserve yet?

Campers use a special metal thermos to carry coleman gas.
If you can find one of these, you could carry enough gas to get you home or to a gas station,
This will allow you to run your tank dry, if need be.
I easily ride 165 miles without the low fuel light turning on (I have the 4.5).

It is really nice to have a low fuel light.
I never carry extra fuel, but if we ever have a fuel shortage, it would be a comfort to know we could ride an extra 20 miles to find an open station.
I would definitely carry one if I had a jet ski.

I have had no chance to ride my 883 Sportster past the 127 miles yet. I have two MSR fuel bottles in a tank bag, that gives me close to half a gallon, enough to get to a near gas station if the need arises. My 2007 Sportster is fuel injected, so no reserve, but a low fuel light which may (or not) come on soon.
