Default 88 sportster bucking and hesitat On issues

hello everyone I am new to this group and I need some help please. I recently bought a 1988 sportster 883 converted to a 1200cc. The owner let it sit for 3 months and has small oil leak from under the derby cover. Bike starts up fine and has decent idle. How ever once warmed up if I mash the throttle the bike bogs down while in Neutral. When in gear you have to continue to pull the throttle to raise the rpms and then you can start going to get moving . However there is extreme hesitation at low rpms and dies if you don’t gradually pull the throttle until high rpms. Also when off the throttle bike bucks like a horse while moving when off the throttle. Like I said when I mash the throttle weather I’m in fear of not it will heasitate and pop for 3-4 seconds and finally hit high rpms. Suggestions?

Sounds like you have a clogged carb jet and possibly intake manifold seals need replacing? Are you certain the bike was only sitting for 3 months? May want to drain and put fresh fuel if you haven't already done so.

Lot's of good Sportster info here http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/start

According to the owner it was about three months. Just hopping it’s not anything too serious.

Ethanol in gas does havoc on carbs, been there. Stewarts sells non ethanol.

A good service manual will be helpful. You will want to confirm you getting good fuel flow to the carb the then as I described above.
