Default New Tire Question

I cannot remember how my bike drove when I bought it and I have no other frame of reference.

2013 Sportster Custom 1200. I recently put new tires "Dunlop D402" on my bike and I am surprise at how easy it turns. Before I changed the tires I did a great deal of counter steering but now it seems all I have to do is lean into the curve to go where I want. Its almost as if the tires have more curve on them. My old tires were stock from the purchase and had about 11,000 miles on them. Is this normal because the tires are new or am I imagining something. Thanks in advance for reading and responding.

Just take those turns a bit easy until the new tires get "scrubbed in" a bit more.

Different tires do have different profiles which affects how the bike feels, for sure. I’m new to HD from a sport bike which is my only frame of reference so far, but I definitely felt differences when I changed brands on it...easier/more willing to tip in and just a more agile feeling overall.

scrubbing off the release agent will change things a little.......but the old tires probably had a flat contour on the bottom......going to a new tire it has a good rounded edge to it......so it does get into corning a little easier.

So about how long or how many miles does it take to scrub in new tires?

Yeah with 11000 on a rear I guarantee you had a flat spot and that's what made it not roll into the corners well

I felt the same thing when I went to Avon’s. The more you ride on them the more you like them. I’m on my third set.

If you really want tires that make a difference, try Pirelli Night Dragons. They make the Dunlop tires feel like Fred Flintstone's stone wheels.
