That is what my plan is. Picking up new drain hose today and a couple of hose clamps as well.

I now recall that about 2 weeks prior to changing the oil I was on a group ride and bottomed out on a pothole. The frame hit hard enough that it broke my tail light off its mount. (Krazy glue fixed that problem.) That could have resulted in a sufficient enough tug on the drain line to cause it to start leaking,.

Anyway, going to drain the oil, save the filter, and replace the drain hose.

 

With all these new Sportsters only 2" off the ground, it's no wonder you guys are breaking stuff all the time. Broken kickstand spring mounts, oil lines, etc. So much for the "low" look.

At least my 1991 has some decent ground clearance with 13" shocks.

Yes, they are low which makes it hard to get my lift under it without rolling the bike up on boards. Why I never use the lift. However, in all fairness, I slammed into a pot hole that probably would have been a problem regardless of shock length. The jolt broke my tail light and knocked my head light's retaining ring off. Besides the oil drain hose problem.

To close this thread out, I replaced the drain hose last night and no more leak! The part was only $14, but it took me 2 hours to get the hose routed correctly. Getting that hose down the hole in the frame was a challenge until I figured out how I need to route it before connecting it to the tank. (I'm an accountant, not a mechanic.) No more oil drip.

The next challenge is drilling out two derby cover bolts so I can change the primary oil and adjust the clutch. The fun never ends with a Sportster!
