Default Newer master cyl and controls on older bike

Hi,
ok so I bought an 88 883 to have a play with, just wondering if I can fit later model front master cylinder to it along with the later model switch blocks. Not concerned about the wiring of switches just the compatibility of the master cylinder ie bore size ..
any help appreciated
cheers

Which "Later" are you referring to: 96-03, 04-06, 07-later ...all different sizes

But Harley actually upgraded themselves in 1996...Same calipers up to 99, but changed the earlier 5/8" bore M/C to 9/16" in 96 ... (referencing single Caliper bikes)

I'm just after switch blocks and master cylinder that look like (or more like) the current ones. Your info has helped, I'll search for some pics of different years, hopefully find something that suits

If you go with 96+ controls, you will have to change to the new style throttle/idle cables.

that is a good point to consider but as my current set up is designed for a single throttle cable, the return spring on the carby is (should be) strong enough to return the throttle to idle so changing to later controls shouldn't really mean I need to add an idle cable ? Away from my bike now, away for work so I can't go have a closer look. Not familiar with this sporty yet, still very green on them

No, the new throttle cables are push in instead of threaded like the old ones. So even if you just run the single cable, you'd still have to account for the new style.
