Sound when i turn key on?
Hello everyone, just a quick question, what is the sound I hear when I turn my key on.......(2002 xl883c) stock.........over the last week, i didnt hear it....and no spark, just turned over, never started........then i removed my fuse box, checked everything, put it back in and bam, i hear it........vacuum? No fuel pump yea on an 02.....anyway when i heard it again, i got spark and she's alive, fired right up. So i know i might have a loose ground, but what was the sound i hear......sounds like a fuel pump or something priming. Just trying to track down what is happening and thank you for any of your knowledge in advance.
Be safe, keep the rubber on the ground.

Take a look under there and figure out what's making noise. Maybe it's a california emissions bike with the intake valve blockoff, that's linked in to the start circuit so it could feasibly malfunction and make a no start. A standard 49 state bike has nothing to make noise in that situation.

Finally got out to work on it, new grandbaby showed up 6 weeks early and lots of projects at work. Baby home and good.........
Ok...sound comes my speedo, in my storage building was misleading, kinda echo'd and sound like it was under the tank.
Problem was I went riding and she just sputtered out and died, like out of fuel. She would turn over but never fire up, removed fuse box, neg cable was lil loose, tightened it up, pull off the wires on ignition coil, checked all good.......then she fired up, ran her few times round the block, never farther than i wanted to push it back, ran good. Did it again few days later, ran good. Then yesterday decided to just go till she broke or didnt, made it bout 7 miles, not even warmed up yet, then sputtered out and died again, same thing. I reached down and moved the wire on ignition coil and she fired back up and ran perfectly...........i haven't ohm'd or tested coil yet, but either a short in the right side coil wire, not plug wire, the small one or a bad coil. Should be a simple fix
Is the sound from the speedo normal, kinda a hum or lil whine, never noticed that on any of my other bikes. This bike is new to me, couple months and my first Harley
Thanks
