Default Lower engine case leak.

Looking for some advice. Trying to fix up my father in laws bike and chased and solved one problem and found another.

Its leaking pretty bad at the case seam in the picture. Looks like he only way to fix this is to split it. I was hoping it was a leak from somewhere else migrating but when I wipe it down it leaks from an area about 1-2” wife and the spreeads. I wiped it down 40 times checking to be sure. I checked th torque on the 3 bolts on the lower case and they ae good. I think the clear seam sealer popped as it wet dumped bad after losing the oil pump scavenger side.

Maybe it's the light but I thought that was an oil trail from the set screw you have marked with an x? If so the oil will pool on the case joint as the bike is leaning to the left. Wipe it off and stand the bike as vertical as you can, like against a wall and check again

that is what I thought so I wiped it down and there is visable oil coming from the screw. I wish it was that easy.

So, that's the source of the leak? Or not?

i think it’s the case seam. I continue to look and it definitely weeps from the seam along about a. 2” area.

Its not too bad and and does not get worse when it runs. I may clean it and jb weld that area over pulling the engine and splitting the cases.

It sucks but oh well. Suggestions?

I ran some jb weld steel stick along the seem and the leak has stopped. Cleaned and scuffed it, used brake cleaner and applied it the best I could under the frame cross member.

No more puddles but now I noticed the primary chain tension adjuster has a drop or two per week so just going to get a new crush washer and clean it up.

The jb weld should grind off easy when I eventually pull the motor and split the cases but she runs great and problem solved temporarily.

Update. 2 years later and JB Weld is holding up. Thought it was leaking heavier but found a bad oil drain line that will get swapped out tonight.
