Default Seattle BS pricing

Here is an example of what is going on in the Seattle are as far as craigslist adds goes.
I bought the same bike with 6250 miles and mag wheels for less than half what this guy is asking.

It always seems that everything is three times as much when you want to buy it but only worth half as much when you go to sell it. Even 1,700 seems expensive when I think about all the $$ that I can easily put into it, and still have a bike only worth 1,700.

Thanks everyone for the input. I have the preliminary approval from the fiance to buy it. I just need to get some pictures of it for the final OK!

Still tempted by the 86 softail they have there, it's ride ready and sounds so awesome, but also 3x the cost...

Not at all, luckily! We are both traveling right now so a brief phone conversation is all we were able to have. I've never gotten a "no" yet on a bike or mods. Just good advice. Actually, I don't recall a no on anything I've really wanted :-D

Then by all means, negotiate!!

I never (NEVER) offer best price. Always haggle.

I don't know what I'd pay for that bike without looking it over. Anyone who says it's a good price is just guessing. What they may mean is, "if it's in really good shape, runs good, etc....it's a good price."

But if someone is asking $1,700 and is willing to negotiate, then he's probably not expecting to get $1,700.

Offer $1,100 to start. You can't lose by starting low.

And since there is one crack that you can easily see, take a good, close look at the rest of the bike, particularly the engine.

People are asking so much for sportsters up here in Seattle that I gave up looking for one and ended up buying a Moto Guzzi for my next project. $726 for a very good ‘07 donor bike with only 16,000 miles on the clock.
