Default Craked oil vent casing

hello,
Just seeking some advice, I just took my Sporty to the shop here in Germany for the bi-annual inspection and a annual service ect. There genious mechanic cracked the casing for the front oil vent and the rear one over tightened it and messed up the threads... so my goal is is it going to be easier and cheaper if I try and fix the crack by welding it back or just replacing the whole head. I do not know the exact extend of the damage only from a photo that dose not show the actual damage.. I wont be able to inspect it until i am back from visiting the US.

Thanks
rancid

Do you have a machine shop in your area? It sounds like they may be able to repair and re-thread the head. In any case, the head has to come off, so you may want to consider looking online for it if you do not like the machine shops price.

Sounds like the mechanic was trying to crack both heads for you. What is it with people and their obsession with "perfect" torque on non-stressed bolts? Where is common sense? You can always check any bolt you think might loosen, but why not leave yourself a large margin for error? You can always go tighter, too tight and BAM, you lose.

Hope they owned up to creating the problem and make things right for you.

I think that's why this forum exists. None of us trust others to work on their bikes. I know I feel that way.

Sorry to hear about the shop denying responsibility. I hope you have success using due process now.
