my beloved sportster turned to scrap

RE: my beloved sportster turned to scrap
Heal well and completely, and everyone out there be careful!
I want to share this story with everyone:
I passed an overturned bike yesterday and a small crowd gathered around the driver in the road, including police and EMC personnel. I stopped, dismounted, and walked back to the accident. I was talking to a cop and explained I belonged to this forum and would like to share the cause of the accident to possibly warn/save others from the same fate, as well as myself. I was perplexed because I was on a little-travelled county road where the speed limit is 55 mph in the middle of the NJ Pine Barrens - the last place I'd expect a bike to have an accident. The cop told me the bike was travelling north and the car was coming out of a side road and the driver claimed, "I just didn't see him when I pulled out on to the county road". The car caught the bike in the rear with his left front quarter panel and sent the bike spinning. The bike rider was thrown 50' and was all bloodied up and full of road rash with imbedded gravel, but conscious (thank God forhis helmet!). The biker was wearing shorts and a tee shirt which really aggravated his injuries. The EMC folks were sure at least one leg and an arm were broken and were fearful of other internal injuries not readily apparent. It was a little more difficult than usual to get back on my bike and continue completeing my 137-mile journey after seeing all of that.
Everybody, PLEASE be alert and defensive out there! We are simply targets to too many cagers who are only looking for other cars and trucks when they are driving.

Glad your OK... Sorry to hear about your ride. Let me tell you, getting hit by a car is no fun... I haven't been hit on my motorcyle, but I was hit by a car while mountain biking back in '92. When people say "I feel like I have been hit by a truck", they just don't know. You don't know what it is really like until it has happened to you...
Feel better soon.

Glad to hear you're o.k. I've had several near misses and the post about watchin' the tires is true. They don't lie. I was hit from behind while bicycling and the driver kept going. I woulda swore it wuz a limo! I couldn't get away from it! Turned out it was a little chevy compact car, but it messed me up pretty bad. Ya gotta watch out for them cagers, cuz they sure don't watch out for us.
