it is air cooled. they tend to get hot.j/k. get an oil temp gauge and keep an eye on that. if it's really running hot, then you can try running synthetic, SE A/C, slip-on's, etc. a lot of people have had good results from the synthetic. me personally, i just ride faster so more air flow.

later,

wanna

Round town and short hops not at speeds greater than 30my 06 1200C tends to feel like its runninghotter as well and I've run HD Syn3 and now Amsoil with little difference. Just typical of air cooled bikes and you're in a pretty hot climate.

I'm not new to riding, i rode a Yamaha 750 everywhere i went for years (until i hit a deer) and never had a problem. I'm new to HD and wondering why a new bike runs hot on short trips. Will it make a difference with an after market exhaust system?I know it will sound better, does the carb have to be jetted?Wherecan you purchase amsoil?

hey jake, all those questions can be answered using the search feature of the forum. and any exhaust that is a free flowing will help. if you buy a full exhaust (not just slip ons) i'd reccommend rejet. with just slip on's, i'd reccommend a SE A/C with K&N filter. and by the way your yami was water cooled just like a cager. your harley is not. it takes air to cool it off, so if you're sitting at a billion redlights, on hot @$$ asphalt, in hot @$$ weather, what do think your bike is gonna be?

hope this helps,

wanna

Thanks again for the input, i found a shop that will dyno for $90. i got my eye on some VH Short Shots and i'm looking for a good price on SE A/C & filter. by the way my yami was a 1981 Maxim and it was air cooled.

It is an 06=carbed, have it rejetted, Air cleaner and pipes when you get around to it. But definately get it rejetted, they come from the factory lean to meet emissions. Lean=Hot, the emissions is why all Harleys are now fuel injected. The above mentioned mods A/C, jets, pipes is referred to as stage one and is almost always the first mods done to a pre fuel injected H-D.
