Default 3" over tubes Sportster 48

Speaking for myself, I would look up ideas on adding height to my suspension. To give a run down on my dimensions, I'm 5'11" and about 155 pounds.
i wanted more clearance because of my stature and because I prefer the "standard" Sportster height.
I changed my rest shocks to 13" myself since it was a relatively easy job, but I took it into a local shop here in Denton Texas for the front end. I had the fork oil changed and pitched my plan for extending the forks 3", and instead of buying new tubes, and since I was fine with the ride quality, my mechanic machined extended fork caps to add to the 3 inches. There's a definite line where the caps screw but it's really only noticable when you're looking for it. This is my story on how I went higher on my 48 front end.

I think it looks great. Notice any difference in the ride? Also, I am jealous of your bike in the living room!

That is very creative. I have no clue how safe that is? I hope others can you can chime in on reliability over time as I would also like to increase the height of my front end (after being sat on with my 215lb frame) maybe 1-1.5in but was planning to accomplish some of that with stiffer springs.

They used to be called "slugs". A cheap/easy way of extending forks. I researched when I did mine and went with actual replacement tubes. Too many horror stories about the "slugs" failing. Maybe the newer stuff is safer, but I didn't want to find out the hard way.

Sweet! I have +4 tubes on the dyna. Be careful though as even back in the day slugs were known to break and could really mess up your day. If you really like the looks and ride, bit the bullet and install longer fork tubes.

Just the the less querky front end handling from only raising the rear

Yeah, I just bit the bullet and went this route instead of new tubes. There are stories of them failing but they also are stories from decades ago

From what I’ve read elsewhere many bikes like maybe the Iron,48, etc. can be lifted an inch or two by swapping in Roadster damper rods and IIRC this increases fork travel too. Don’t know the specifics on this but should be easy to find via Google and comparing fork part diagrams at dealer sites.
