Default Exhaust modification

i own a 2018 iron 883, planning to change the stock exhaust to Vans and hines short shots. i was advised i would need to change the air filter as well as the fuel pack as well. Really not sure if it is actually required or i can just change the stock piped with VnH short shots

If you go with a full replacement exhaust then you will need a tuner of your choosing. You do not need to change the air cleaner but since you are replacing the exhaust you might as well do the full stage 1 (exhaust/air cleaner and tuner).

Thanks for replying!

Sorry for being naive in this i am new to owning a harley. I just checked out VnH short shots pipes(https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/...ster-2014-2017) to replace my stock exhaust. I also saw the VnH Slip ons, so if i change to short shots does it come under the full system replacement?

The Short Shots are a full system. Any slip on will just be replacement mufflers.

If you’re just looking for sound and not increased power just do slip ons. It’s cheaper too. If you want s little more power do a full stage 1. Full exhaust system and an air cleaner. If you do that, the bike will need a basic tune which you can get done at a harley shop. The tuner is pretty pricy though, I think around $500 on top of the exhaust and air cleaner. So slip ons are the way to go! (At least for me, I’m not into tons of power. I like to cruise around with that nice harley sound.)

Welcome to the forum!

Here's a couple videos, just to give you some ideas of different things you could do, I'm including a video done with V&H Short Shots-

The Thunder Torque Inserts™ will deepen the tone of your exhaust a bit, giving it a throatier growl while also giving you a gain in low and mid range torque.

One of The Best exhaust mods when comparing results per dollar spent(29.95).

Here's a LINK to the TTIs where you can see Dyno charts, other videos, and full details.

Hope to have been some help!

Cristy
