Lots of threads on here about air filters.
IMHO there is no point spending money on a K&N and putting it in the stock housing, much better to buy a complete high flow unit including the K&N filter and be done.
Make sure to choose one that DOES NOT vent the blow by gasses back into the engine like the Screaming eagle and many other "high performance" housings do.
Go on to DK's web site and read all about the differences in air cleaner performance and the advantages of venting blow by to the atmosphere instead of recycling it back into your combustion chamber.

Here's two links to the reports we did, mentioned by HOTLAP.

Differences Between Outlaw HiFlow Air Cleaner Systems

Overview of External Breather Systems

Hope this helps!

Shortly after I purchased my 2017 custom back in December 2016 I upgraded to stage 1 with SE ac and V&H slip-ons. And shortly after that I found this forum and got educated on external breathers and the downfall of returning hot oily air back through the intake. So I modified the SE ac to achieve an external breather system. Ran that way for the better part of 2017. But, wasn't really satisfied with the setup plus was getting tired of knee always hitting the ham can. So after Christmas I upgraded to DK Customs 425 HiFlow ac with their discrete EBS. Much happier with this setup because I think it's getting much better air consumption over the modified SE setup (no hoses to block the incoming air).
