Arrow HD XL1200X Forty Eight & Brembo brake floating rotors doubt

Hi mates,

I am improving braking of my XL1200X Forty Eight (2012) and I have a doubt with fitment of Brembo brake floating rotors...

Until now I have bought the Brembo front caliper from the HD vrod (HD 44732-06A), Brembo 07HD16CC carbon ceramic brake pads and the Goodridge HD0124-1FCH-VB Stainless Steel braided hose.

But now, I have two Brembo references that I found on google:

- Brembo 78B40891 (that seems to be front rotor)

- Brembo 78B40828 (that seems to be rear rotor)

Does anyone know something about this?

Thank you and greetings from Spain!

Thank you mate, but I am referring not to the OEM vrod floating rotors.

The Brembo's that I am looking for are these ones (Brembo Oro):

vrod rotors are larger than xl1200x rotors so i hope you've factored that into what you've got going on:

vrod:
• Front (dual) 11.81 in. x .2 in. (300 mm x 5.1 mm)
• Rear 11.81 in. x .28 in. (300 mm x 7.1 mm)
(via: https://www.totalmotorcycle.com/moto...versaryEdition)

48
– Front 11.5 in. x .2 in. (292.1 mm x 5.1 mm)
– Rear 10.24 in. x .28 in. (260.1 mm x 7.1 mm)

(via https://www.totalmotorcycle.com/moto...Forty-Eight-48)
the caliper mounting locations and angles need to be considered as well. i'm running the touring brembros on my bike now and the had to be re-angled withe adapters
here's an old example of size diff on front rotors when installing vrod calipers: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s...d.php?t=274658

most folks running around here aren't using brembro rotors or vrod calipers. not that they are bad rotors, it's just not common in >this< forum. better yet, pick up the phone... call brembro. that may save you some time and trouble

Wink

While H-D sells floating rotors for use with their Brembo brakes, there is no certainty they use stock Brembo rotors, in fact they may get them elsewhere. The Sportster rotor fixing pattern of central hole and five bolt holes goes back to before H-D adopted Brembo, so any rotors you buy need to be compatible with Harley wheels, post 2000. You can see the H-D range of suitable rotors on their website, just go to the Shop tab, but I don't see any of the style in your links.

By all means contact Brembo direct, but don't be surprised if they won't supply rotors that will fit our Harleys to anyone except to H-D. I have EBC floating rotors with the Brembo calipers on my Glide.

Out of curiosity. Is there a benefit from the brembo to the xr caliper other than brand recognition and rotor size? I like the look of the xr caliper a little better but I am almost certain they perform the same.

not sure why he's fixed on brembro but, we like what we like.
floaters are better. less chance of warping, and depending on the cut, better heat dissipation in repeated braking situations.... smoother feel as well since the carrier and buttons allow the braking surface to shift slightly.

I agree in that you should contact Brembo directly (and be sure to take names). Meanwhile, be aware that what you're attempting to do could also require a different front and/or rear master cylinder for proper operation.

Hi mates,

Thanks for your replies.

Finally I have contacted to Brembo. I hope they could solve the doubt.

The easiest choice to do the change is to replace with the OEM floating disc #44358-00A, but here in Spain at local HD dealer it cost nearly 400$. I consider that it is an abuse because I have found on the USA from 130$... the main problem is that USA stores do not ship to Spain...

So this is the reason why I am looking for Brembo rotors... Here I can buy Brembo floating rotors for 160$ approx.

I will inform you with the final choice...
