I recently replaced my final drive belt on my 01 xl1200c due to the belt having uneven wear. I came back from a road trip and I still continue to have the uneven wear on the new belt. I've measured for both alignment and proper belt deflection but I have no idea what could cause this kind of wear.

Looking directly at the belt from the rear of the bike the wear is about 1/4" from the outside of the belt working its way into the center. It's major wear but it's something that you can feel if you pass your finger over the belt.

I've gone over this thread and he has/had the same issue but said everything worked itself out.

 

Most likely it's one of the pulleys that has a bad spot.
