Default How often do you adjust your clutch ?

I personally don't like pulling the clutch lever all of the way in.

Last couple of bikes had hydraulic clutches. It'sbeeneight years since I had a bike with a cable clutch. Some of my other bikeswere chain driven. Every 600 miles, which sometimes was once a week for me, you had to clean, lube & tighten the chain. Time consuming, but part of the motorcycling enjoyment.

The clutch/cable feltfine when I first bought it. Then before my 1000 mile service, I started having to pull the lever all of the way.

Dealer adjusted it at 1000 miles. I now have around 1650 miles and its starting to irritate me. I will just have totighten the cable.

I do a lot of city stop & go driving = a lot of shifting.

It sounds like mine is going to be good for around 750 miles before I adjust it.

Just wondering, how often do you adjust your clutch cable?

I adjusted my clutch earlier this week for the first time at 34,000 miles. I'll do it again whether it needs it or not at 60,000.

I adjust the clutch by the book: every 5000 miles. I have to take off the derby cover to change the primary fluid so I adjust the clutch at that time as well. If you don't like how the clutch engages, then I think you can change the engagement point by adjusting the cable.

I believe the recommended internal to inspect the clutch to see if it needs adjustment is every 5,000 miles.

That being said, I find that to be more frequent than necessary.

I usually check mine every 10,000 miles or so, and normally no adjustment is required.

If everything is set correctly it's hard to imagine it needing to be adjusted after only 750 miles. That being the case I would need to adjust mine almost weekly. [8D]

Usually cables stretch a bit and then take a set. I'm betting it will settle down. I have 2500 miles on mine, fair bit of stop and go, and I haven't had to touch it yet.

I haven't adjusted it yet....

My next statement is not projected at anybody in this thread in particular...I don't want to ruffle too many feathers but I think the majority of the new bike owners just are not use to the issues. I get this thought from reading the majority of the threads and [sm=icon_guiness.gif]. I may be a "Prospect" or "Hang Around" on this forum, but I've been riding cycles since I was 6yrs old, had my sporty since '00, & performed the majority of the work/installs without a manual...

I understand that you should adjust the clutchto how you want it or if needs it,butyou could be burning the clutch plates if you over tighten it.There is a clutch assist kit that you could install, and I hear that it helps with the forearm pump sindrome from too much clutch action. I say only adjust it if needed.

My results are like yours. I have 65k miles on my bike. I had to adjust it once after whooping everybodies *** at a slow race contest after a poker run.I adjusted it during the 1k service. I adjusted it when I added the SE spring at about 52k miles. Other than those times, I have never had to adjust it.

I have checked mine about every 5,000 miles, but just adjusted it for the first time a week or so ago. Roughly 17,500 miles.

Thanks for the responses and advice.

I figured the cable should have been stretched out well beforenow. Maybe not. I have had a clutch cable break on me before.

Everyone has their own riding preference and likes their bikes to feel a certain way.
