RE: MP3 player helmet headphones
I was just thinking the same thing. I also use Apple's in-ear buds and notice that they stick out quite far because of their design. I was thinking that I'dreally need something that is fairly flush with the outside of myear when inserted. I'll check out the JVC's this weekend ...

RE: MP3 player helmet headphones
Here's a couple ideas to stir your creative juices. I had used several brands of ear buds in the past but they all seem to pull out or move over time so I abandoned that option. I have come up with 2 solutions that both work pretty good.
First option is Sony MDR-A35G headphones. Link here. I have these for running/gym. They sound really good and sit in my ears good. With my full-face helmets I can wear them without feeling like they are pushing into my head. These work great, even at speeds up to 75-80.
But I know some (like my wife) might find that awkward with the halo inside the helmet so I looked for another option. I looked at a lot of "helmet" speakers and determined they were little more than headphones without the head part but cost a lot more dough. So I made my own for a few bucks.
So my second option, pictured, is to buy yourself a set of around ear headphones and adapt them for your use. I don't recall what brand I used but they are similar to these. I tried to keep the cost around $20.
I took them apart so I had just the ear peices and ditched the rest. I glued velcro to the outside. These ear peices fit perfectly in my helmets (Gmax GM44). Note they have a pocket for speakers but I chose to use velcro instead. Either way works fine. The attached pics are my setup.
These work pretty good and are comparable to the Sony's. They sit close enough to the ear to be able to hear them and are not too tight. They do tend to drown out some at high speeds but at normal highway speeds they sound pretty good.
Velcro and glue were in the garage so this only cost me $20. Not bad for road tunes.
Hope that helps.
