Where to connect USB charging port
Hi,
I have a 2013 1200C and I'm looking for a good place to make a power connection near the handle bars for a USB charging port. I got one of those USB ports with approximately 4" wires from Cycle Gear and mounted it on top of the headlight hood (very invisible). I could tie in the headlight but would rather not do that. What about the ignition switch? I want power only with the key in the ignition. I went ahead and already routed the power leads near the battery but stopped there since I didn't know where to make the necessary connection. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I use this off the tender pigtail. If I'm going on a long multiday ride I just run my phone's charging cable under the tank and zip tie to the risers. I've got a phone mount on my risers as well for gps use. Otherwise I throw it into my saddlebag. You might be able to find cheaper options if these elsewhere.

+1 with using the tender pig tail, i have mine mounted to the gas tank vent tube on longer trips, tho i have had the "tender cap" fall down and melt on my rear head.
For a permanent place, how about 3M it to the bottom of the gas tank so that the charging port is facing your leg? Makes it easy to have the passenger plug into it also by just running their chargeing cord under the seat or just sitting on it.

I have a USB I mounted using a battery tender pigtail. As long as you don't leave something plugged in while the bike is off its OK. You can always put a switch in line one of the wires and shut it off manually if that makes it easier to not forget.
The battery tender pigtail I had also has a 10 amp fuse for added safety of the circut.

hide it on the neck where the tank and the frame meet. That's where my permanent one is. I dont use it anymore though. ...
like othere said above, i now use a tender quick disconnect sae style and an sae extension. Zip tie it where i need it for that ride. The permanent one is just still there cus i dont feel like removing it and may need it some day.. for something.

Hello,
Here's what I finally did. Now power is turned on the USB charger only when the key is in accessory or the run position. After considering other options I decided to solder a wire on the Accessory 15A fuse which is right in front after removing the fuse enclosure lid. A wire goes to a dedicated fuse then the wiring runs under the tank. I wrapped the wires in wire protecting tubing and it comes up just under the handlebars.
I think the photos show better how this was done. As you can see the charging port is sort of hidden under the handlebar bag which sort of protects it from the elements.
Wire solder close as possible to the plastic part of the Accessory 15A fuse.
Now on those long trips I can rest assured my battery will not drain if I happen to forget to unplug it from the battery minder port. I did measure the battery drain on the charger when nothing was plugged in and it was about .5mA. This is almost insignificant but I wanted absolutely no drain what so ever so this was my solution.

I got port that hooks to the battery tender lead under the left side cover of the Roadster. It's a cig lighter prot that
has a USB insert I picked up for cheap. Also use a short red band charging cable into the X-grip.
Has a rubber cover for when it rains. Always on, so I can charge my phone or helmet while parked. I think I paid under 30
for the charging port, and just ran the wires under the tank and zip tied them to the bundle.

I currently use my heated gear connection to recharge my phone with the battery tender as a backup to both the heated gear and USB
If going to the fuse box I'd go this route, a little easier than soldering to the fuse and you are not out of luck if that particular fuse pops.
Found doing a google search for extra fuse connection
