Default 1986 883 won’t start...

hey guys I recently replaced the stator clutch basket and voltage regulator in my 86 883. The bike will now not start, when you initially turn the key on the lights and everything come on, you hit the ignition and it clicks goes dead and lights go out, let it sit for a few minutes and the lights will come back on and it will do the same thing upon attempting to start

Even though my sporty is an 06' I had a very similar problem. I ended up finding a corroded fuse under the seat. It was a pretty large fuse too. Hope this helps.

Did you check/test your battery?

With multi meter battery tests at 12+ volts with ignition turned to on position, sometimes the light comes on and sometimes it does not when the light does come on it draws down to 11 volts or so with ignition on, when hitting the electric starter switch there is no draw on the voltage

When I turn on my ignition i.e. everything on, I register 12.7 and I have a fan. So perhaps charge then load test your battery.

I would also check all your connections especially ground to/from the battery...and also to/from starter. When lights go on and off randomly, sounds like loose ground. When everything on and no draw from starter sounds like connection issue.

Just use process of elimination. Nothing will change without a good battery and good connections/fuse. Good luck.

Yes, check your battery connections. Your battery terminals are tough to get tight and try to wiggle the battery into the tray under the seat frame. My 1991 is the same. I got a Shorai lithium battery too, so never have to deal with a low battery again.
