Default Too much tranny fluid?

I got my ride back from the dealer a couple weeks ago from having the 15000 mile service done to it.I've been riding it pretty regularly since.I noticed a couple days ago that it was leaking from the trans plug bolt.So I tightend it up.It was a little looe,no biggy. But after the next ride it leaked again. So I took the clutch cover off and DAMN.It was way over filled. It came running out even before I got the bottom bolt loose.I drained enough out that way to have it get to the right level. It didn't leak after my last ride so hopefully it is fixed now.I was wondering if having it over full for about 250 miles has hurt it any? Also the fluid that came out was kinda green/olive green in color and milky not clear. Is that normal also?

Milky oil is not a good sign. The tranny takes 32oz. (1 quart). If I were you I would drain the oil and replace it. You can add the oil through the primary chain inspection cover so there is no need to pull the derby cover.

Also, there is an O ring on the tranny drain plug. It's probably bad. Pick up a new one from the dealer or indy before draining the fluid.

You probbly already know this but was your bike up right or on its jiffy stand when the oil ran out ? If it was on the kick stand the oil will run out. If standing upright fully the oil should not of ran out. Any way like charley said, I would replace the oil and o-ring.

I did have it straight up and it was still leaking.I'm going to drain it all tomorrow and replace the fluid and the o-ring also. What fluid should I use?

I think overfill may create more pressure in the primary case and blow the seals, if you don't see any leak from other seals, I don't see a problem there. Go get a new drain plug o-ring and put 32oz tranny oil and recheck oil leak if necessary.

What fluid should I use?
You can use either 20w-50 (same as the engine) or 75w-90 Gear Oil. I use Mobil 1 75w-90 syn gear oil.
