Default 86 1100 belt conversion pulleys

Hey everyone, So I am new here. cant find if theres a thread already about this topic .

Ive got an 86 xlh1100, somebody previously swapped the chain to a belt.

long story short, front pulley is junk, splines are blown out.

I can not find the front pulley anywhere, Ive already ordered one from JP that was not a match ('91 front drive pulley) .. local HD dealer is useless when it comes to tracking Non OE parts.

the pulley has HD # but its so faded cant make it out.

Does anyone know anything about the HD belt conversion kits for those years.

If I cant find this part Im gonna end up swappin the pulleys out for sprockets and run chain.

but man it'd be nice to slap a new pulley on and be good to go!

thanks everyone

Wink

There was a retro-fit kit available from H-D, possibly also aftermarket brands. Harley has stopped supplying parts for bikes that far back, including all Evo big twins, so don't condemn your dealer too much! If we can identify the correct part number, there may be a few replacements hiding on dealers' dusty shelves somewhere! Belt drive was introduced on Sporties in 1991 IIRC, with the new 5-speeds tranny. Hopefully one of our experts will be along soon.....

40256-89 should be for a 4 speed. Getting hard to find those parts. Personally I'd stick with the chain, but if you want the belt that pulley should do the trick.

Thank guys for the info. I just ordered the 40256-89. I will be putting some work into the bike this winter, during that time I may swap back to chain. Should see the pulley end of week!
