I've owned a Sporty. I've never had anyone tell me it's a girl's bike. I've only seen that stuff from Dudes sitting behind keyboards from a few hundred miles away. Go figure...

A scrambler/dual sport/dirt capable factory Sportster would be just fine by me.

Also - forget the modern tech. If they would have expanded the Sportster line
with a 4 cam in block XR500/750 line instead of the Streets, I'd probably have one.

Thats what everyone says about my late wifes BMW F650GS but the tune changes when she left bikes well over her weight in the literal dust. Once when heading into Torrey Utah we were following a couple guys on wide tire chop bikes with loud pipes. She was a bit intimidated but i told her she could easily beat them through the curves and on the flat so she did just that. When we all stopped a little later they high fived her. It was a great moment. I now ride that "girls bike" along with my '08 sporty all the time. Want to call either of them a girls bike. Come on and lay down your slips and we will take a quick ride through the twisties.

My boss (who's a bicyclist) gave me the girl's bike routine when I got my sportster. I said "At least it's not a Schwinn!"

That's my answer
