Here are a few pics. I ordered a new rotor for the stator and a new nut for the shaft. I think I'll be in god shape once the parts come in. I'll be sure to post an update as soon as everything is back together.

i was in good shape!

everything is back together and she's up and running. I had to cleanup the threads on the shaft, and after doing that it all went together well.

i was a few days delayed in firing her up because the new battery cables i purchased through jp cycles (accel canoes for a 94 883) were too short. After rectifying that problem everything worked out.

advice?
make sure both battery cables are tightly secured to the battery posts.
I had charging/electrical issues a couple of years ago and it turned out to be
a slightly loose negative battery cable.
