Why Don't People Wear a Helmet?

I do like the baseball bat story.
This discussion is like similar ones regarding seat belts in vehicles, decades ago. One chap I knew had rolled his car some time before our discussion, during which the windshield had popped out of the car and he got flung through the now gaping hole, as the car continued to roll. He walked free with minor scrapes and knocks. That's not a valid argument against wearing a belt!

A head 'popped' like a grape under a boot would be "good looking corpse"?
Or if the head doesn't 'pop' and 'merely' results in a closed head injury how 'fast' can that life be lived?

Many years ago in NH--I either rode no helmet or full-face. In recent years after getting back on the bike after many moons, either no helmet or half helmet.
I recently bought a 3/4 and am currently researching for a modular. I do log some miles and plan a lot more starting in a few weeks. I suppose as I am older, I've gotten more scary. I figure for long hours on the slab, for weather and flying debris both organic and mineral--the extra protection may be a good thing. Also, my hear loss is increasing.
My main concern with full face is weight and situational awareness.

How many threads are there like this? Why do so many people stress themselves out over other people's choice to not wear a helmet? No matter why they do it, it is their freedom. There are millions who ask why you ride a motorcycle and they think you're stupid for doing it. But that's a choice too.
Sometimes on a nice hot sunny day it feels good to go helmetless. Sure, the risks are greater, but it's a calculated risk made by an adult who is willing to take it. So the guy got hit and he's in deep. Lots of people wear helmets and end up in the same trouble. I wish people would stop pretending helmets are absolute difference between life and death. Helmets help, but they're no guarantee. They cannot prevent concussions, only skull fractures, and it's the concussions that will kill you.

Ok, this thread has run its course. It's also been beat to death many times (probably wasn't wearing a helmet. Time to move on.
