Sportster big brand touring seat vs Custom Seat
#11
Thanks for the insight on build quality. My local harley dealer doesn't carry any of the demo saddles for sportsters but I did order a danny grey seat from revzilla and it will be here Friday. I will give it a good inspection when it arrives as there aren't many good photos of the seat online and take it from there. If it looks of poor quality or unsuitable I will return it and go another route. I really like the Saddleman LS step up seat that you often see on Dynas (they make them for sportys too) but have not seen one on a sporty either and they are $440 :/

I have the Mustang Wide Vintage with a backrest. The backrest comes off and the seat is two piece so you can remove the pillion if you wish. They are actually sold separately.
I can ride 24 hours straight with no discomfort. I have to stop riding because I fall asleep. I can also ride 1000 mile days back to back for 11 days if I need to (I've ridden in two Iron Butt Rallies). The Mustang is a firm seat and takes about 1,000 miles to get broken in so don't expect it to be comfortable immediately.
I've always gone with the "firm seat is better than a pillow" mentality as that is what I learned when I did some longer distance bicycle riding.
If you want a custom seat, in the Long Distance riding community the most popular custom seat maker by far is Russell Day Maker. They have a several month backlog and require a donor seat to use for the seat pan. I am not sure how many sportster seats they have done and that is why I never went with them. They are also $600-700. I also was comfortable with my Mustang and feel if it ain't broke don't fix it, however after 225,000 miles my Mustang seat is starting to fall apart.
PS - I guess I should have scrolled down and seen that you already have purchased a seat. Good luck!

I just did over 4k in a couple of weeks with a pair of 700 mile days on my Mustang seat w/o complaint. No passenger, though. Same experience on a different brand bike led me to buy another Mustang. I have gone the custom route which cost much more and wasn't any better comfort wise for me. Just my experience. There are so many variables that I think you just gotta experiment and find your set up. Having someone on back makes it even more complicated, lol.
