Default Has anyone installed the 4" combo digital speedometer/analog tach on 48?

https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...log-tachometer

Seems like a very smart upgrade from the stock analog speedometer/digital tach. Im curious if the fuel gauge works on a stock 48 without having to add other sensors and stuff? Id also rather have the analog tach.

Nevermind. Just read that XL models require purchase of fuel sensor kit? Figures. Lol

Yea, you have to go for the sensor. More bucks but it does work well. Only 1/4 tank increments though but better than using odometer IMO. High winds, etc. will make the odometer reading off. I have a 3.5 and it's nice to know when I have 1/4 left when on back roads.

Analog tach is more important than a speedo IMO (unless Jonny Law is around!). The speedo is large numbers but once in a while hard to see in certain sunlight. Night time the thing is the bomb with the color options.

Seems like an awesome upgrade, thats for sure! I figured I could pretty easily swap the gauge, but not so sure about a fuel sensor. Ill have to read up on that.

Thanks for the info!

Have you seen this Dakota Digital Tach/Speedo?

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd684.htm

The Harley Tach/Speedo will work without the additional fuel level sensor but you will not get the fuel gauge and mileage range functions with the stock fuel level sensor.

I put the digital speedometer and fuel sensor on my bike. Wish I had done it sooner. I really love it. Fuel gage works really well. Of course with a 1250 kit with 560 cams that will rev up quick to 7000 rpm I really needed the analog tach. Its not hard to install.

I have been searching too - boardtrackerharleyonline seems to be the best price (about 15-60$ cheaper than other sites) just FYI if you decide you want it. I have to work some more OT then I'll probably upgrade. Debating on the fuel gauage too. I'm kind of wondering if I do the gauge first then around Christmas time ask for the fuel gauge from the hubby if it will connect to the speedo after all that time.

The Harley site says you need to do them together to avoid issues.

I just put it in mine. Was a super easy install. The instructions do say that you're supposed to install the fuel level sensor first because connecting the new speedo/tach.
