I have a 2008 sportster 1200 and I just took off the sissy bar and trying to figure out if it is supposed to have a washer between the fender and the strut? in place of the sissy bar?

 

On my 2002 Sportster the washer is between the shock and bolt. Maybe it's different with newer bikes but I only have to remove 4 bolts around the rear turn signals to get mine off. The only thing I see the shock mount holding is the upper belt guard.

Yes, there are really thin washers on the bolts.

 

I don't see washers between the strut cover and the strut, nor between the strut and fender.

I'm referring to the number 5 and 6 bolts if that's the rigid sideplate. OP, I apologize if that's not what you were asking about.
