Default Sportster Speedo and Tach Needles Don't Work

Hey guys bought a 01 1200XL a few weeks ago, got it for 3k. The only problem it had was that the speedo and tach didn't work. Figured it would be too complicated of a problem but now I have no idea what is happening.

The odd thing is that both lights for the speedo and tach work and when you turn the key on, both needle move slightly. But once you start the bike or ride it both needle don't move. I was thinking of changing my speed sensor but that wouldn't explain the tach not working and seems odd that both wouldn't be working.

Any feedback would be appreciated, kinda at a loss here.

I have the same problem with my speedo on my 06 1200. my indy says it's my speedo itself. We are in the process of replacing it at 300.00. I to bought my bike at a great price so i don't mind putting some $$$ in it.
