Default NBC News did a story on baby boomer cycle accidents tonight

Anyone see NBC News tonight? They did a story about all the increase in accidents by baby boomers, and they specifically mentioned motorcycle accidents.

'Reminds me of a lot of what I've been reading in here lately.

Ya'll be careful out there, so we don't have to have NBC News sticking their cameras in our faces...

It's the only channel I got.

If I move the coat hanger around a little bit, though, I can sometimes get a Mexican channel...

If you're a baby boomer, you're going down.

OKay, old joke.

They've been doing this story for a while now.

Is it:
1.Inexperienced empty nesters with extra money on their hands buying $20,000+ high powered heavy motorcycles for their first ride and getting in accidents?
2. More motorcycles on the roads = more accidents (simple math)?
3. Sensational type news story being recycled (pun intended)?
4. all of the above . . .

I see the boomers all the time in my area. They drive 10mph under the speed limit and look nervous on their big bikes. Not all of them mind you - but the ones who bought a bike in a mid life crisis lol

I'd rather see that than some of these newer riders on their 150 HP sport bikes, with limited riding skills, trying to impress everyone on the road.

no doubt . .both can be dangerous and scary to see! But, unless we adopt some type of progressive motorcycle license system like they have in Europe, the dealers will sell you as big of a bike as you can pony up the cash for.

My wife is an insurance agent. It's unbelievable to me how many insurance policies she sells for sportbikes to guys that are 18, 19 yrs old, and have never ridden before. What's more shocking is how many file thier first claim (if alive to do so) in the first six months.

I am willing to bet those two segments are tied for total number of accidents. Both have limited riding experience and I think someone who is riding nervous is just as likely to trip up as someone who is being over confident. The other night I was riding and witnessed both ends of the spectrum. An older women on a metric bike shaking like a leaf coming to a stoplight almost forgetting to put her feet down. A mile down the road at another intersection a kid on a crotch rocket (white tennis visor on - big sunglasses at dusk - shorts and sneakers) staring all over the place except at what's going on in the road realizes he's missing the green and half-*** wheelies - holeshots to the next light almost rear ending a car. Both equally likely to fuel the statistics.
