Default Stage 1 - How can I be sure??

When I picked up my bike, I was told there was a Stage 1 upgrade done thru the dealership. I haven't called the service dept and asked them. I do have SEIIs, but how can I tell if the AC was changed out as well?? I recently performed my 5k oil change and I'm planning to clean out the air cleaner, but I haven't removed the filter as yet. When I do, how can I tell if the AC portion of the Stage 1 upgrade was completed? Thanks for your help.

The original AC is made of paper, you can easily tell if it has been upgraded. Is that a carb model? The only thing you can do is to remove the float bowl and check the jet size, other than that, I have no idea.

Yep, it's an '05 carbed model. I've already removed the AC cover and the filter appears to be a paper filter. What would a Stage 1 filter be made of? I haven't been any deeper into the bike so I don't know about the jets. I've heard an awful lot about rejetting, etc. but I don't know what to look for or where...

If you have a stage one the backplate that holds the air filter is different you can feel the filter from the backside, on a stock air cleaner the filter is not visible IE the backplate completely covers the air filter..

High flow air filter usually made of cotton and it is washable and reusable. For the jet size, see the picture below, you should be able to see the jet size number on the top of each jet, remove the bowl, put a small mirror below the carb and you can view the numbers from there . If you have a stock paper air filter, I doubt it has been re-jetted in the past.

PILOT JET

Stock jet size specification

Except California 175
Outside USA 170
Slow jet 42

More often than not, the jets need to be changed on the carb and, as 128 auto so well explains, this is how you would verify it. If you assume that it has been changed just because it has a different filter in it, would be too assuming, since anyone can do that at any time.

I pulled off the air cleaner cover and looked at the filter (Part # 29044-04B). I then went to the HD website and tried to put that number in the search engine. No results. I also tried 28044-04B, nothing. I then did a general search for Stage one and the only kit that came up was for '07 bikes (mine's an '05). Called an independent shop and they couldn't help me all they could find was listings for FI bikes. Does anyone know what kit(or parts) I would need to pick up to have the Stage One completed? I may want to have this done sometime soon. I already have the SEII's on the bike. I'm gonna try to call the dealer and see what records they might have. The backplate appears to be solid as well. I'm guessing it hasn't been done.

Here's a link to an older discussion on thepart numbers.

I'd get a K&N filter.

Ratdog, So based on the part number I've posted, do you believe I have a Stage One setup?? I haven't ventured into the carb yet, so I don't know what jets are there. When I removed the filter, there wasno snorkel. I'm assuming the 'snorkel' is pictured in the link below. I was wonderinghow to properly clean this filter. This filter says it doesn't require oiling. I tried to blow it out with air and it didn't seem to help.
The filter looks something like this, with an open back...

It doesn't look like this...

I'll try to post some pics tomorrow...Thanks for any help...
